Blood testing for fertility
Fertility blood tests can give helpful information about your reproductive health, hormone profile and overall well-being. They are often one of the first steps in understanding your fertility, whether you are trying to conceive, planning ahead, or preparing for fertility treatment.
At Thérapie Fertility, we use blood testing as part of a wider fertility picture. Results can help us understand your fertility potential, but they should always be reviewed alongside your medical history and, where appropriate, Ultrasound or HyCoSy results.
Blood testing is minimally invasive and usually only takes a few minutes. You do not need to be ready for treatment to have testing. Many patients choose blood tests to better understand their health and future fertility options.

What are fertility blood tests?
Fertility blood tests are simple blood tests used to check hormones, infection markers, immunity, thyroid function and other health factors that may be relevant to fertility or treatment planning.
For women, the most well-known blood test to check fertility is AMH. This measures Anti-Müllerian hormone and provides information about ovarian reserve, an estimate of the number of eggs remaining in the ovaries.
Other blood tests may include FBC, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, rubella and thyroid function tests. These can help us understand your overall health and identify anything that may need to be considered before starting treatment.
Blood testing can also be used for men. A blood test for male fertility may help check hormones, general health markers or, in some cases, specific factors that may affect sperm production.

Are blood tests for checking fertility useful?
A blood test can provide useful information about your fertility health and help guide your next steps. It may show whether further testing would be helpful, whether treatment should be considered, or whether there are health markers that need to be reviewed before moving forward.
A hormone blood test for fertility can help us understand how your body may be functioning from a reproductive perspective. For women, this may include information about ovarian reserve and hormone levels. For men, blood tests may help identify hormonal or other health factors that could affect fertility.
Blood test results should not be looked at in isolation. One result does not define your fertility. Instead, our doctors review your results alongside your medical history, symptoms, cycle information, semen analysis where relevant, and other tests such as transvaginal ultrasound or HyCoSy.
This gives you a clearer and more balanced picture, helping you make informed decisions without unnecessary treatment or repeat testing.

View all Blood Tests questionsA good AMH level depends on your age, medical history and fertility goals. AMH is best understood in context rather than as a single number. Your fertility specialist will explain whether your result falls within your expected range and how it may influence your next steps.
A lower AMH result can feel worrying, but it can also give useful direction. It may suggest that ovarian reserve is lower than expected for your age, which can help you prioritise your fertility options. It does not mean you cannot get pregnant, nor does it measure egg quality. Your team will explain what the result means for you personally and whether any further testing or treatment options should be considered.
An AMH test may give information about ovarian reserve, which can decline as menopause approaches. However, AMH alone cannot confirm exactly when menopause will happen. If you are concerned about perimenopause, menopause or changes in your cycle, our doctors can talk through your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate next steps.
An AMH test is a useful fertility marker, but it should not be interpreted in isolation. Results can sometimes vary between laboratories or be influenced by individual factors. This is why we review AMH alongside your age, medical history, ultrasound findings and wider fertility picture.
